The joined community Ilmenau offers a diverse culture and leisure time programme. Three sports clubs invite you with their diverse offers to become active.
The Ilmenau river is ideal for long walks, cycle tours (for example on the Ilmenau-cycle-path or one of our cycle tours from our directory) and of course also canoe tours.

The ADAC (AA) with its diverse safety trainings for every ability and age, the kart lane and the numerous events offer unique fun in the region of Lüneburg.

In the villages of the joint community Ilmenau there are recurring cultural events. For example the classic concerts in the Barnstedter estate chapel organised by the Musischen Förderverein Barnstedt e.V. or in Melbeck changing exhibitions in the watermill. Regular biblical readings take place at the Katharinen church in Embsen and in Deutsch Evern the association Martins Mantel organises for among others meetings and help in community readings und lectures about the most diverse topics.
In addition every village has a range of very popular festivals, which take place once a year.
In Barnstedt for example the village celebrated its village fete on the village square 'Am Butterberg', organised by citizens and the pig racing club 'Schnittige Borste'.
In Deutsch Evern the village fete takes place in the village centre and the craftsmen market in the primary school's assembly hall, organised by the 'Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dorffest'.
In Embsen the heath ram is selected organised by the Heideböcken Embsen e.V.
In Melbeck the solstice festival is celebrated in the Floetstraße, organised by the Verein zur Unterstützung der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Melbeck e.V.
